Captain Phillips is a multi-layered examination of the United States in 2009 hijacking of a container ship Maersk Alabama by Somali pirates workers. This is - and director Paul Greengrasss different lenses - all pulse-pounding thriller with a complex picture of the countless effects of globalization. The film focuses on the relationship between Alabamas Commander, Captain Richard Phillips (double Oscar? -Winner Tom Hanks), and Somalia, the pirate captain, Muse (Barkhad Abdi), who takes him hostage. Phillips and Muse are set on a collision objections when Muse and his staff aim to Phillips who was unarmed ships; in the ensuing struggle, 145 mile coast of Somalia, and people find themselves at the mercy of forces beyond their control. |
